Sports fans will love living in the heart of Chicago near both Wrigley Field and Soldier Field! Watch the Chicago Cubs take on the best teams in the MLB at Wrigley Field or catch a Chicago Bears game at Soldier Field. Both of these arenas are significant in Chicago’s history. Wrigley Field was built in 1914 and is the second oldest ballpark in the majors. Soldier Field was built in 1924 and is considered a monument to the times and represents the “Golden Age of Sports.” In addition to hosting football games, there are many events like concerts and cultural festivals held at Soldier Field.

The Lincoln Park Zoo is special to Chicago because it is one of only three free zoos in the entire nation. You may be thinking that it’s a small zoo, but it’s actually a major attraction and has been around since 1868. That ranks as one of the oldest zoos in the United States! Because it’s free, you can just walk through the gates without tickets. Then start exploring the 35 acres of exhibits and features! There are more than 1,000 mammals, reptiles, and birds and about 200 different kinds of species. Be sure to check out the Nature Boardwalk, which is a natural ecosystem for the state’s native birds, frogs, fish, turtles, insects and more. Visit anytime between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Another venue to check out is the historic Logan Theatre. Though there are many theaters in the city, but this one is most iconic and is a community staple. It opened in 1915 and hosts local film festivals and open mic nights. It also shows big blockbusters, as well as independent films. When you visit, look out for the vintage movie posters and film artifacts that are on display. They fill the space with feelings of nostalgia. The building’s architecture also contributes to these feelings! Influenced and inspired by the era of Art Deco, the building also has a classic neon sign to let everyone know that they’ve arrived at the Logan. Unlike many movie theaters, ticket prices have remained under $10, making it the perfect place to take friends and family to enjoy an indie or popular flick, or even a film festival!

The Adler Planetarium has been educating the public about space science and exploration since 1930, and it was the first in the nation to ever do it this way. Alder is America’s first planetarium, right in Chicago! Some of the most notable exhibits include informative films in the theater, the hands-on Community Design Lab, and the Telescope on the Terrace.
